January, Thursday 30th

No wonder why translating isn´t appealing ;-)
Hello guys!

Tonight´s class was fun, wasn´t it? We corrected the inversion activity on page 143, did the usual test-on-the-screen and moved on to the reading activities on page 42 (5b, 5c and 5d). Only when we finished with that did we do exercise 4 (words with "silent letter") and exercise 6 ( translating does not seem to appeal to any of the people in class, but acting, being a geologist, a musician, an air traffic controller ...all of them  do :-) Cool!

There we stopped. We are beginning unit 3C. Are you suffering from Affluenza? tomorrow.

See you in the usual at the usual!

January, Tuesday 28th

Hi everyone!

Yesterday we began the class by doing exercise 2C (listening) and then 3a and 3b (grammar), both on page 41. Never before this class had we seen such strange constructions like THESE (CLICK HERE FOR INVERSION). Please, finish the activity on page 143 for Thursday.

Then, Toby came in with his Who wrote it? A man? A woman?, a genuine speaking activity for you to practise personal views on a certain topic (language used in literature). As usual, there are extra copies in the classroom, if anyone fancies getting one!

Do also remember to do the reading exercises 5b, 5c and 5d on page 42 in your textbooks, please.

That´s all folks!

See you on Thursday!

January, Thursday 23rd

Hi guys!

What a numerous class tonight! That was great!
Las night we first commented on the most shocking facts about Trivia 2 (done with Toby on Tuesday) and then we moved on to the last activities in unit 3A. Breaking the silence. Firstly we corrected exercise 5f on page 39 and discussed the meaning of the highlighted vocabulary; then, we revised sounds & the human voice on the screen and did a pairwork activity about all  that too.
Then, it was time for unit 3B. Lost in translation. We got as far as exercise 3a on page 41 and also did the  Who wrote what? activity about funny books titles and authors. It was fun, wasn´t it? There are copies still available in the classroom !

For Tuesday, please do activities 2a and 2b on page 25, and also exercises 4a, 4b and 5 on the next page.

Enjoy your weekend and see you on Tuesday!

January, Tuesday 21st

Hi guys!

Today we first began with the two activities a and on page 142 . Ways for speculation and deduction was still our topic in THIS EXTRA ACTIVITY (some more sentences where to choose one corect option). And then, back to the book, we did exercises 5a and 5c (we speculated !) and after reading Breaking the silence, we finally listened to Susie Rea´s project (exercise 5d ).
After 7, it was time for Toby and his quiz on ( unbelievable ) world facts. We will read out quiz 2 on Thursday in class (please, bring your copy).

For our next Thursday class, please don´t forget to do exercise 5f in your textbooks (page 39).

IMPORTANT: From today and until next February, 6th you can choose your 30 minutes of fame (spoken exam). Grids are available in the classroom.

See you on Thursday guys!

January, Thursday 16th

Hi there!

Today we started unit 3A. Breaking the silence by doing the exercises on Sounds and the human voice (page 161), and then we used some of this new vocabulary to do exercise 1f on page 36 (we listened to some sounds-a mosquito buzz, a guy snoring... and had to tell the story). Then we moved on to exercise 3c (we skipped 3b because of the length of the activity) . We listened to that hard interview with Julian Treasure ( do you fancy watching his video and know more about NOISE?) and also answered the nine questions shown. And finally , we had time to quickly do exercise 4a on page 38 and read about WAYS TO SHOW SPECULATION AND DEDUCTION. And there we stopped!

Please, don´t forget to do exercises a and b on page 142 for our next Tuesday class.
Enjoy your looong weekend! See you then!

January, Tuesday 14th

Hi there!

Today we resumed our lessons and began working on pages 32 and 32 - Writing an article - We first took turns to read out the text about children´s lives now and then, and also gave it a title (exercise b). After that we skipped some of the questions in exercise c and did only questions 1 and 4. We finished this part by doing exercises d and e about enriching our vocabulary when writing.
Please remember to choose ONE  of the topics present in exercise a (page 33) and hand it in on Tuesday next week the latest : some 250 words will do this time...
Right before Toby´s time (he is back in Spain, I thought he was still in the UK !) , I just had time to hand out this WORKSHEET ON SOUNDS and find out which you already knew - whistle, splash... Please, bring to our Thursday class or else download + print it.
Finallly, Toby gave you a genuine reading & speaking  ( and somewhat difficult ) task : Sort it out! Two news stories. There are many copies still available in the classroom if you to get a copy !

See you all on Thursday!
