Thursday, October 31st

HALLOWEEN NIGHT!!!
Today we kicked it off with Unit 1C: Whose language is it? , where we worked on the whole of page 12:  we did exercises 1a, 1b, 1c and 1d, and even had some time to work on lexis in context -on the next page. That´s the furthest we got !
We then did the speaking activity called Error correction. Done in pairs, each of us had to read a sentence out to our partner and wait for them to fix it (they all had mistakes).
Finally, our spooky listening activity: THRILLER! Click here to DOWNLOAD THE ACTIVITY and the GLOSSARY. Enjoy the video!
IMPORTANT: Photocopies are already available at Eva´s stationer. Please do copies 1 ,2 and 4 for Tuesday next week (read info on photocopy 3).

Happy halloween night! See you on Tuesday!

Tuesday, October 29th

Hi there!

Today we began by stating our opinions on the statements present in exercise 6a (page 11) and to do so we helped ourselves to the agreeing, half-agreeing and disagreeing phrases from 6b. We then moved on to a communicative activity called the family (click HERE to see), where  we worked in pairs A/B and had two minutes to tell one another what our pictures communicated.
After the break, it was time for our conversation assitant and his topic was Halloween and other festivals around the world (Day of the Dead in Mexico, etc). Please click HERE to see his presentation in the classroom.

And that was all!
Please, don´t forget to choose ONE of the topics stated in the previous pair work The family (exercise b). Let´s pretend they all are Interned posts. Reply to ONE of them stating your point of view. The writing should be some 125 long. Deadline for this is November, Tuesday 5th

Feel free to come to class with a disguise on Halloween´s day!

See you on Thursday!

Friday, October 25th

Hi guys!

Yesterday we first commented on Supertramp´s song and its message. Then, we moved on to speaking and listening (page 10) where we met King Charles IV´s family. We did exercises 4a and 4c and right after that we worked on vocabulary: family. We did exercises 5a, 5b and 5c ( 5b implied exercises on page 158) and then we had time for no more!
For Tuesday next week, please do the following in your workbooks: exercises 1 and 3a (page 6), 3b and 3c on the next page. Don´t forget to also prepare exercise 6a (in your textbooks, page 11): just choose a topic you agree or disagree with and write down your reasons. This will be next Tuesday´s first speaking exercise!

Enjoy your weekend! See you on Tuesday!

Thursday, October 24th

Hi,

In this atypical day, we resumed our what´s your personality type? questionnaire in order to share what we agreed/disagreed on with others ( leaders are not aggressive). We also wrote down some personality words from memory (click HERE) and then moved on to collocations (exercise 1d. lexis in context).
Then it was time for grammar: the verb have. We first did exercises 2a and 2b on page 8 and then had this POWER POINT on the topic ( also present in your books, page 137). We also did the two exercises on the next page.. and that´s it, we finished grammar!

Finally, we listened to Supertramp´s The Logical song to complete blanks with a few more personality adjectives (see the video) - Lyrics HERE -

For tomorrow Friday, we remember to do exercise 2a and 2b (page 7) in your workbooks. We´ll comment on the message of the song too!

See you!

Tuesday, October 22nd

Hi guys!

Today we began our sessions by discussing the differences in meaning of the pairs stated in exercise 4d... and this way, Unit 1A was over!
We then had a look at the quote present in unit 1B. Who am I? in order to discuss appropriate ways to describe somebody´s personality: body movement, the way they drive, their behaviour...
We then did exercise 1a and 1b (the questionnaire "What´s your personality type?), and it was thanks to this one that we found out our personality type - on page 116 -. Some of you even wrote it in your name tags ! And...that´s the furtherst we got in 1B.
Then it was time for Toby and his IDEAL JOB QUESTIONNAIRE, which gave you the opportunity to rank your ideas from 1 to 5 according to their importance when it comes to getting an ideal job.

And that was all! Please, have a read of the book says about YOUR personality type (p.116) to see if you agree or disagree. Just that for our next class!

Thursday, October 17th

Hi there!

Today we finally got to do the listening activities e and f on page 7 ( and take to Becka a bit more this time, with our head phones!) . Then, we moved on to the part of vocabulary: we did exercises a and b, and then worked on the whole of page 157. These two things took all of our time, you might be getting the feeling that this year´s book is dense. And it is, but I think it is worth it! :-)
And that was that!
Please , remember to prepare exercise 4d (page 7 in your textbooks) for next Tuesday´s class with Toby at 19h. That activity will be the ice-breaker for his class. Don´t forget to do exercises 4a and 4b on page 6 in your workbooks either!

Enjoy your time and see you all on Tuesday, at the usual in the usual!

What we did on Thursday, October 10th

Hi there!

What I day today! The headphones
didn´t work properly, Becka Walton had a frog in her throat, and  the innocent drinks turned out to be demoniacal.... just not my day!
In spite of all that, we got to do some work: we first read out our half-sentences and did exercise c on page 136. Then we did the writing, speaking and listening activities present on page 6 and read about Innocent drinks ( see its TV ad) and there we stopped. We had time for no more!
For next Thursday, please do exercises 2 and 3 on page 5 in your workbooks.
Have a good and loooong break! Sorry about the problems today!

What we did on Tuesday, October 8th

Hi there!

We first began today´s class with exercise 1d (page 5) and that was our ice-breaker. We then watched these people speak about what motivates them, and had to choose ONE appropriate title for each

SETTING PERSONAL GOALS

IDENTIFYING WITH OTHERS

SELF-IMPROVEMENT

SENSE OF GRATEFULNESS

After that, back to our textbok and straight to exercise 1h ( idioms ). Please, find out how many idioms you get with the entry MIND if you get HERE (an on-line dictionary).

Right after the break, it was time for grammar: we first did exercise 2a and 2c, and moved on to grammar bank on page 136: CLICK HERE TO SEE THE PRESENTATION
We then did exercises a and b . That was all!

Please, finish exercise c for next Thursday. Do also have a go at the unfinished sentences present in the last slide of the previous presentation ! Use your own words!

See you on Thursday!

What we did on Thursday, October 3rd

Hi everybody !

Yesterday we met Tobi Jones, our assitant this year and we had the typical ice-breaker in order to get to know him (and for him to get to know you!).

Right after that, we moved on to unit 1A "What motivates you? ", where we first commented on the famous quote and later  had a read of some of the texts on page 4 (Ann Patchet´s and John Malkovich´s) and did exercise 1b and 2e.

Finally, and almost in the nick of time we saw this
video and selected one appropriate title for its content:
Sense of commitment !
For Tuesday, please don´t forget to do exercise
1c in your textbooks, and do also 1a and 1b on page 4 in your workbooks.

Enjoy your time !
See you on Tuesday!
